Haha, I seriously got into the points game just as the dollar coins, or the “mint” was ending. The frequent flyer community called this method the mint because they felt they were “minting” money/points with the dollar coins. There were several stories about people who did something similar, buying a ton of coins with their miles earning card, then hauling them to the bank and depositing them.

I would’ve loved to get in on this but I was only doing a lot of reading at the time. I was reading through Flyertalk every night as fast as I could and I had a hard time keeping up with all of the forums and deals going on out there.

I did make it in for a few great deals that are no longer around though so I’m just grateful for that. A great thing to remember is that deals always come and go, I just tag along for the ride now rather than watch from the sidelines. It’s never too late to get into the game.
