Automated approval, card in the mail. The executive card at $450 isn’t worth it to me, as you can get AA club access with a $400/year AMEX paitlnum or even cheaper by buying passes as you need them and getting them rebated as you’ve discussed previously. I too wondered about the additional $7K for 10,000 points, but I think it’s worth it. 14 $500 visa gift cards buying 14 Vanilla reloads at roughly ($9*14 = $126) means you’re getting your 17000 miles for a real cost of about 0.7 cents/mile which is not the same deal as the first $3000 ($9*6 = $54) for 0.125 cents/mile, but still that last 17000 points come at about 1/3 of the cost of buying them directly from AA.Of course, if you have legitimate spend then both the 40K and 10K are an even better deal, or just use the card for Amazon payments over the year
